  • Lake Chatuge is the home to over one hundred types of bass. Hiawassee and Lake Chatuge fishing is fantastic. It is some of the best Georgia fishing available. Many visitors are drawn to Chatuge Reservoir for its fishing, and thirty-two species of fish can be found in the lake.  Tournament fishing is common, and several state-record fish have been pulled from the lake's waters. The water is deep, and fishing in depths of 25 feet or more is common on Chatuge. 

    Smithgall Woods is an angler's paradise. One of north Georgia's premier trout streams, Dukes Creek, runs through this spectacular mountain property and is a favorite for catch-and-release fishing. To ensure a quality experience, the number of anglers is limited and fishing is offered only on certain days. As a result, anglers should call ahead for reservations.

    Unicoi State park.  There are numerous fishing docks around the edge of the lake. Anglers can catch catfish, bluegill, and bass. Georgia state fishing licenses are required.
