Black Rock Mountain State Park, named for its sheer cliffs of dark-colored biotite gneiss, encompasses some of the most outstanding country in Georgia’s Blue Ridge Mountains. Located astride the Eastern Continental Divide at an altitude of 3,640 feet, Black Rock Mountain is the highest state park in Georgia. Numerous scenic overlooks provide spectacular 80-mile vistas of the Southern Appalachians, and several hiking trails lead visitors past wildflowers, cascading streams, small waterfalls and lush forests. The summit visitor center and picnic tables are popular with travelers in northeast Georgia. Black Rock Mountain State Park is 30 minutes from Mountain View Campground.
Smithgall Woods
Smithgall Woods – Dukes Creek Conservation Area is a state park consisting of 5,663 acres of mountain woodlands that rise along the Dukes Creek watershed. The State of Georgia acquired the land in 1994 and it became dedicated as a Heritage Preserve under the Georgia Heritage Trust Act of 1975. Visitors can enjoy the park in many ways with miles of trails to hike and there are nearly 12 miles of improved roads that gently wind through the property to bicycle on. Smithgall Woods Conservation Area is 30 minutes from Mountain View Campground.
Unicoi State Park
Visitors to Unicoi State Park and Lodge have always enjoyed the expansiveness of the wilderness surrounding the Georgia state parks, from our hiking/biking trails and the ever-popular Unicoi Lake. Learn to paddleboard on Unicoi Lake, try your hand at 3-D archery or take a level one fly fishing class. Unicoi State Park is 30 minutes from Mountain View Campground.
